It is with deep sadness that the family of Dorothy Churchill-Johnson announces her death on May 9th from coronary disease. The time between her diagnosis and death caught her family, her friends, and the art community by surprise, and we are all still trying to cope with the large void she has left behind.
From her humble beginnings in Boston, Massachusetts to her final migration to Santa Barbara where she found her place in the art community, she continued to impress us with her artwork. Accompanied with her quick wit, intelligence, and political acumen, she was a constant source of entertainment - especially with her annual Christmas letter (another work of art). On so many levels, her presence was larger-than-life, as exhibited by her magnificent and larger-than-life artwork. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
To all her friends, and to the Santa Barbara art community in particular, thank you so much for your loving support and for giving her the space and the opportunity to shine in the area that gave her so much purpose and joy ….. her art.
Sadly missed, fondly remembered, always loved and admired,
Her loving family
